Ode to Summer

Summer has a smell. It’s the heat, the dry grass, the blooming flowers... The warm wind rustling leaves as you step on packed dirt, fresh from humidity. Summer smells alive. Like the earth is breathing after seasons of work; seasons of preparing for this time of celebration. There’s a calmness and an urgency, to feel compelled to wake up early with the sun, but be at ease, knowing the days are long. Summer is lighthearted and forgiving. It cares only for the moment; the future can wait. It wants you to swim, to sunbathe, to eat, to dance- to enjoy. And it takes you as you are, as incomplete and wide eyed as you can be. You are it’s child and it wants you to play.
