Rock Walk

Rock Walk

There’s a small trail in my neighbourhood winding between the forest and a rock wall where Ferris and I often walk as a part of our morning route. Since this past Spring, something particularly special has been going on here.

Within the ridges of the rock wall are smaller rocks, colourfully painted with sentiments of hope, love and optimism. Little reminders to practice gratitude, dream big, have fun and love yourself (to name just a few). They can’t help but make you feel good as you walk by, inevitably reading them.

Each rock silently yet effectively cheers you on and makes you feel good, not only about yourself, but about the world, and about people. When someone somewhere anonymously takes the time to do this kind act; creating dozens of little cheerleaders to lift up complete strangers, it’s hard to not see the world as beautiful.

The compassion and empathy coming from another human is so powerful.

Every time we take “the rock walk,” I feel connected to a community of people who- regardless of how different we may be- all need the same things.

To whoever took the thought and time to create this connection amongst the everyday of life, as one human to another, thank you.
